To start, you should change your oil at least once every six months in general though that could vary depending on your driving habits in Englewood. Oil changes are included in scheduled maintenance, so you can usually count on your go-to service technicians to complete them when needed. You should also check your oil once every month as a part of your routine check. Find out more below!

How to Check Oil Level in Car

Most newer vehicles are equipped with electronic oil monitors that do not utilize the standard dipsticks, so you should consult your owner’s manual to see what your vehicle is equipped with. If your car has a dipstick, do the following to check the oil:

  1. Park the vehicle on level ground and make sure it’s turned off.
  2. Open the hood and locate the dipstick.
  3. Once you’ve located the dipstick, wipe off any excess oil on the end.
  4. Place the dipstick back into the reservoir, and remove it again. Check both sides of the dipstick to check the oil level.

If your vehicle is equipped with a dipstick, it will have an indicator telling you the oil level. If the oil level is between the two marks in the cross-hatched area, you’re good to go. However, if not, you must immediately add more oil.

Always refer to your owner’s manual to see which grade of oil is recommended. To add oil, just remove the fill cap, and add a little in small increments until you’ve reached the recommended level.

How to Reset Oil Change Light

Depending on what vehicle you drive in Fort Lee, resetting the oil change light may be a different process. Keep in mind, you only want to reset your oil change light if you’ve changed your vehicle’s oil, as missing an oil change could cause issues in the future. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Turn all systems of your car off, but leave the engine running.
  2. Located the “reset” button on the dashboard, which is usually near the gauge cluster.
  3. Hold down the button until the oil change light starts flashing, which indicates the light is being reset.
  4. Turn the vehicle off, wait for a second or two, and then turn the vehicle back on. The oil change light should be reset.
